Pee Wees Advance
to Northern Final
Kerrobert Pee Wees finished off the Paradise Hill Hawks in
game 2 by a score of 4-2. Competing in the same
time slot as the Gold Medal hockey game, the die hard fans
kept abreast of both games by watching during the
intermissions on the screens in the lobby. We thank the fans
that came out to support our local heros on their way to
Provincial semi-finals!

Who's Next?

Paradise Hill jumped into a one nothing

Thank You Royal Purple!

A big “Thank you” to our local Royal Purple for the donation of 100 game pucks. They came just in time as our supply was getting to the bottom of the barrel. Our old game pucks are now warm up and practice pucks. Thanks again!

Pee Wees take Tier 1 Tournament
in Lloydminister!
Kerrobert Pee Wees, sporting their bright new jerseys from Enbridge, Viper, Rev and KB Sandblasting, won the Championship game Sunday afternoon after a battle with Red Deer in the A Final. Down 2-0 early in the first, they played hard and battled back to win the game 7-4 to take the Lloyminister Invitational Tournament. Way to go!

Thank You!
A huge thank you to all the people who found it in their hearts to come out and support the kids on the new community Junior team who played in the Kerrobert arena. The season is coming to a close with only 2 home games left. It is tough to establish a new franchise in this league, but it has been fast, clean, entertaining hockey and it gives our local kids a place to play after Midget and before going into senior hockey or further. The kids never gave up and they showed a tremendous amount of heart facing the adversity of a first year franchise. We sincerly hope we can keep this team next year and build from the base that has been established. It brings people from all over the province into our town. It benefits the community, the businesses and the kids and can easily co-exist with a senior team.

We would also like the thank the businesses and individuals who supported the team financially, the town, and all the volunteers for their countless hours of hard work!

We are still looking for the winning 50/50 ticket for the Jan 10 game, #0359397. Also thanks to those who bought the Rage Super 50/50 tickets to help fund their last 10 game road swing. There are still some tickets available from any of the players or executive.
Thanks again!

West Central Events Centre Fire

I’m sure you have all heard by now of the devastating fire at the Kindersley arena.  Our hearts go out to the community there, and it is our wish to help out as we can.  To that end, the Kerrobert recreation board has offered ice time to Kindersley Minor Sports, and will determine how to make more ice time available.  This may mean some sacrifice on our part, but we have to remember that it is for the common good.  Many of these changes will come with very little notice, so I ask for your patience as we work all of this out.  Certainly if the shoe were on the other foot, (and it could have so easily been our own arena! This is our wake up call), we would be so grateful to neighboring communities for stepping up.   I think we can put up with a little inconvenience in exchange for still having an arena in our town!

Stay tuned for updates from your managers and coaches.  You can also keep an eye on this website and the online rink schedule ( http://my.calendars.net/kerrobertarena), which we will keep as current as possible.  I thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

West Central Rage

The newest Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL) franchise, the West Central Rage, playing out of Kerrobert, have affiliated some local Midget kids. Ty Neufeld, Stephen Schraefel, Travis Turnbull, Dylan Kruesel, Justin Fischer, and goalie Dustin Waldner, have played in games.  Look for other Midgets to help the Juniors in future games. It is nice to have a local team for our kids to play on after they have finished playing Midget hockey. Other Kerrobert kids playing full time are Quenton Murphy, Jace Kissick, Kennedy Bahm, Geoff Stevenson, Dylan Phillips and Brett Kipling as well as some kids from our neighboring communities. Come and watch some fast exciting hockey. You can see all the action by visiting the Rage Website at: http://www.wcrage.ca/

The five basic principles of Fair Play:
1. RESPECT THE RULES.
2. RESPECT THE OPPONENTS.
3. RESPECT THE OFFICIALS AND THEIR DECISIONS.
4. HAVE EVERYONE PARTICIPATE.
5. MAINTAIN YOUR SELF CONTROL AT ALL TIMES.

Fair Play DOES NOT CHANGE ANY RULES OF THE GAME.
Fair Play ENCOURAGES ALL PLAYERS TO BE AS COMPETITIVE AS POSSIBLE BUT WITHIN THE RULES.

Fair Play is introduced to promote SAFETY and RESPECT, and a positive environment in minor hockey for participants involved. The four main participant groups are; the players, the coaches, the officials, and the parents (spectators). How these four groups interact at any game determines how positive, or how negative the event becomes.

There are an increasing number of concerns becoming more evident in minor hockey today. These concerns go against the principles of Fair Play, what minor hockey represents, and the objectives of recreational minor hockey organizations.

Some concerns in minor hockey are; the lack of respect for opponents, verbal abuse of officials, inappropriate spectator behavior in the stands, violence on the ice, the win-at-all-costs attitude, the increased pressure on young players to win, and the lack of FUN for many.

Remember to cheer for the whole team,
we all wear the same jersey!

Congatulating the other team doesn’t make you
a bad parent!   It is JUST a game!

Brad Murphy – Head Coach, Western Prairie Thunder Midgets

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFsF0Z9EKDgHow to Host a Great Game A refresher on how to host a good game. It should be an enjoyable experience for the visiting town and the spectators.

Schedule your games through Jessica (834-2344) for rink and booth. Contact Barb Stefanuik for officials. Contact Clem to put your game on the website.

Workers on the gate should start before the visiting team arrives (about 1.5 hours prior to ice time!)  Printed programs make the game much better for all.
50/50 collection should commence right away – Gate and 50/50 helps pay for referees and ice time and keeps fees low.
For games Pee Wee and up, it is advisable to have adult workers for the penalty boxes.  For all levels, avoid having children in the clock/penalty box area for insurance and safety reasons.  Remember that off-ice officials (scorekeepers, timekeepers, etc) are to remain neutral – no cheering!

Be sure visiting teams know where their dressing room is and have a key ready for them.
Manager or game timekeeper to set up game sheet and deliver to teams to fill out.
Game time keeper usually announces the game. Find out prior to the game how to pronounce the names of the visiting team.
Make sure clock and PA system are working and ready before the game.
Music is an amazing addition to the game during warm ups and play stoppages. Announcing is done during game play.
For playoff games, especially provincial games, announce the players, have them line up on the blue lines to ‘Oh Canada”. Either have someone sing it or have it on a CD.

Provincial games: Your provincial coordinator will tell you who schedules refs/lines and whether goal judges might be required.

Thanks and good luck to you all for a Great Game!

Kerrobert Initiation Tigers.

The 2009-2010 Initiation Tigers had an outstanding season. The team worked hard all year at developing skills and playing as a team. Every player contributed this season with almost all scoring a goal. One of the highlights of our season was the Dodsland Tourny which saw an overtime win and tournament championship! Our record for the season was 13-2. The players were excited to showcase their skills at a Rage game as well as competing as secret weapons for the Benefit Hockey Game. Overall it was a season of learing, fun and sporstmanship for the IP Tigers. Who are we…TIGERS!!
